Writer, mutha, resident of Random-on-Sea, former TV critic and one of the BBC’s Grumpy Old Women, I’ve been in it and on it but am now very much out of the Box. My first novel ‘Separate Lives’ was published by Quercus in 2012. The next is out in 2014.

Hi Kathryn,
A slightly random message for you. I’ve been researching my Lyons family tree for quite a while, detailing all descendants, as I come across them, of a Captain William Lyons. Amongst his descendants is the Walcott family, a branch of which emigrated to Australia in the 1800′s. I’m sending this message to you as I stumbled across an article you wrote way-back in 2001 that mentioned your great-grandfather, Cecil Berkeley Jenkins. His wife was Kate Wright, who was the daughter of Catherine Eliza Walcott. Here’s a link to the family tree website (this link will unfurl the tree from William down and as far as I’ve researched so far!):

I’d be very pleased to hear from you, if you’re happy to fill in any blanks on your branch.
Best wishes,
Sean

Hi Kate
I’m getting in touch from the BFI Press Office. This year the BFI has been releasing the films of Molly Dineen on DVD for the first time. Volume Three, which comes out on 5 December, contains Geri, The Lords’ Tale and The Lie of the Land. I remember reading about the impact that The Lie of the Land had on you and wonder if you might like to take a look at the film again, if that’s not too painful, in case the DVD release might make a story or column for you somewhere. Would be happy to send a review copy on spec of course.
With best wishes
Jil
